SAVANNAH, Ga. – The UNCP women's
volleyball team rebounded from a two-set deficit to defeat the
Armstrong Atlantic Pirates on their home floor Saturday. The Lady
Braves (11-5, 3-3 PBC) dropped the first two sets by scores 18-25
and 21-25 before rebounding to win the final three sets by scores
25-20, 25-10, and 15-10.
The Pirates (8-9, 2-5 PBC) were picked to finish second in the
conference prior to the season by the league coaches, while the
Lady Braves were picked to finish eighth in the same poll.
UNCP used nine service aces and a combined 36 kills from
Allie
Schneider, Tiara
Anderson and Rachel
Young to fuel the conference victory. Schneider
led the squad with 15 kills on a .290 hitting percentage, while
Anderson and Young finished with 11 and 10, respectively. Young
finished her weekend with two-straight matches with hitting
percentages over .400.
Heather
Bolwerk recorded 38 assists and 11 digs to finish with
a double-double, her fourth match of the season with 34-plus
assists and ten-plus digs , and Marissa
Baker led the defense in digs with 18.
UNCP will return to action on Tuesday, October 5, when they travel
to Salisbury, N.C. to for a matchup with intrastate rival Catawba.
The match is schedule d for a start at 7:00 p.m.
