Box Score AMERICUS, Ga. – UNCP got a pair of goals
from Brittany
Padilla and a dominant performance from its defense en route to
a 4-0 shutout of Georgia Southwestern on Saturday afternoon at
Hurricanes Field.
Padilla led the Lady Braves (10-1-1, 5-1-0 PBC) in their quest
for a win by heading the ball into the goal off a corner kick from
Anna
Svensson, placing the ball in the lower right corner of the
goal for her fourth goal of the season. Sheena
Mature shot UNCP's second goal in the 20th minute from only
three yards away off a long pass downfield from freshman Kayla
Colon.
Anna Svensson registered her 12th goal of the season a short
time later, scoring directly off her corner kick with less than a
minute left in the first-half. The Lady Braves listed their fourth
and final goal of the day with Padilla's successful penalty kick in
the 72nd minute.
"We were missing a couple of players due to an injury and a red
card, but we held strong and got off to a great start with a quick
scoring opportunity, " said UNCP head coach Lars Andersson.
"Everyone on the roster who traveled today had time on the field
and I am proud because they stepped up and contributed to the
win."
Julia Wells and Stephanie Patrylo took the only three shots
Georgia Southwestern (2-9-0, 0-5-0) was able to attempt on UNCP
goalkeepers Britney
Bennett and Rea
Segoviano who split time in goal with one save each.
Andrea
Collen and Mature added six and seven shots, respectively, in
the total 26 shots UNCP had against Georgia Southwestern's
netminder Courtney Allison who finished the game with 10 saves.
"The games we have played over this last week have been crucial
and I am proud of this team for their efforts, but now we must go
back to practice and work on getting better for the rest of the
season," Andersson said.
UNCP will travel to St. Andrews (1-9-0) on Tuesday for a
non-conference matchup in Laurinburg with kickoff set for 4 p.m. at
Knights Field.
