MURFREESBORO – The UNCP women's
volleyball squad swept their action at the Chowan Tri-Match on
Saturday, defeating Bowie State via scores of 25-6, 25-11 and 25-8
before defeating the host Chowan Hawks by scores of 25-22, 25-16
and 25-16.
The Lady Braves (13-6, 3-3 PBC) hit an outstanding .340 as a team
in the two matches, including a staggering .611 against Bowie State
(4-18, 2-12 CIAA). UNCP also kept the matches in their favor with a
sideout percentage above .64 in both matches, including a .72 mark
in the matchup against Chowan (13-9, 11-1 CIAA).
Rebecca
Morgan led UNCP in the two matchups, finishing the day
with 14 kills on a .400 attack percentage. The junior also added
seven digs on defense while averaging 3.50 kills per set.
Allie
Schneider and Tricia
Varno chipped in 12 and 10 kills, respectively, with
Varno hitting at a .429 clip in the two matches. Heather
Bolwerk registered 51 assists in the two matches with
an average of 8.50 assists per set.
Marissa
Baker led the defense with 20 digs in the two matches
while Varno led the squad with four solo blocks.
UNCP will return home next weekend when they host Lander, USC
Aiken and Elizabeth City State in a weekend triple-header starting
on Friday with a matchup against the Bearcats at 7:00 p.m. in the
English E. Jones Center. The Lady Braves will then host a
tri-match on Saturday with matchups against USC Aiken at 11:00 a.m.
and Elizabeth City State at 3:00 p.m.
