Bennett Earns Fourth PBC Goalkeeper Of The Week Honor

Box Score

AUGUSTA, Ga. – UNCP freshman Britney Bennett nabbed her fourth Peach Belt Conference's Goalkeeper of the Week for the fourth time this season, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Bennett previously nabbed this honor two consecutive weeks in September and then again in October.

Bennett turned in 197 minutes of scoreless action on the week in picking up her seventh and eighth shutouts of the season. She registered three saves in a 3-0 win over Catawba on Wednesday, and then grabbed seven saves in a double overtime victory over North Georgia on Saturday. She leads the PBC with a 0.38 goals against average which currently ranks as the second-lowest single-season GAA in conference history.

Bennett now holds a program-high four weekly awards in just one season in Pembroke, surpassing former netminder Whitney Beverly (2005-08) who captured three accolades during her four-year stay with the Black and Gold. Sophomore Anna Svensson won Offensive Player of the Week laurels twice last season and twice this season and sits tied atop the list with Bennett as well.

Bennett ended the regular season with 17 games played and 16 starts, playing more than 1,439 minutes of action in goal while only allowing five goals. She has tallied 77 saves, as well as a .928 saves percentage, while turning in a record of 13-2-2 as well.

The Lady Braves head to Evans, Ga., to finish out the PBC Tournament as they face No. 12 Columbus State (17-1-1) in the semifinals on Friday at 5 p.m. The winners of both Friday contests, including the other semifinal matchup between Armstrong Atlantic and North Georgia, will meet in Sunday's championship game at 1 p.m.
