UNCPBraves.com recently had the chance to sit down with senior middle hitter Rachel Young to learn of her opinion on a variety of topics ranging from what the significance of her jersey number is to how she wants to be remembered when she leaves Pembroke. The following 20 questions are a part of a new feature at your official home from UNCP Athletics.
Young, a Virginia native, has played in 289 games and 93 matches during her four years at UNCP. She has accumulated 520 kills for a hitting percentage of .274, 75 service aces, 157 digs and 211 total blocks. She currently carries the highest GPA on the team (3.951) and leads the Black and Gold in total blocks this season with 68.
In her career at UNCP, Rachel has been a Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll selection as a gold scholar and was named to the 2007 PBC all-tournament team. She currently serves as one of the team captains and starters for the Lady Braves, giving composure and focus to her teammates on and off the court.

I Came To UNCP Because: I heard it had a great mass communications program and I wanted to play volleyball for a school that had great leadership to reach success.
My Dream Job Would Be: to be a working for a political party writing speeches or creating policy in Washington D.C.
Oddest Talent: I have vocal training in folk and opera music.
Nickname: Crotch $. My team gave me this nickname after I hit a ball and it got stuck in between the opponent's legs freshmen year.

When I'm Not In Class Or At Practice, You Can Find Me: Doing school work and listening to music or out shopping!

Least Favorite Conditioning Drill: ten and downs! You have to run across the court, do 10 max jumps and then run back and do 9, etc....all the way down to 1. Then you have completed one ten and down.

What I Love Most About UNCP: I love that the professors are able to work individually with students because there are not many people in each class and that you have so many opportunities to obtain leadership positions.
My Advice To Youngsters Would Be: Keep looking ahead and never be satisfied, be content, but never satisfied with where you are at the moment. If you continue to plan for the future and go after the goals you have, you will eventually reach them.
What Is One Thing You Want To Happen Before You Leave UNCP?: I want to make it to the NCAA Regional Tournament with my team.
How Do You Want People At UNCP To Remember You?: I want people at UNCP to remember me as a well-rounded and fun person. I tried to become involved in as many aspects of the University as I could and work hard at each one. However, I also have made a lot of friends and tried to make the most out of each year's experience.
