PEMBROKE – Red-hot Armstrong Atlantic acted as spoiler Saturday in Pembroke, as the visiting Pirates took a three-game sweep from the UNCP volleyball squad on Senior Day in the Lady Braves' regular season finale. Game scores for the match were 21-25, 19-25 and 20-25.
The Lady Braves (19-13, 5-9 PBC) said goodbye to seniors Caitlin Haworth and Rachel Young, who donned the Black and Gold for the last time during a home match at the English E. Jones Center.
The Pirates (19-12, 8-6 PBC) came in having won 10 of their last 12 matches, and got a .394 attack percentage in the first match, followed by a .333 attack percentage in the second to jump out to a 2-0 lead in set wins.
UNCP hit just .163 as a squad despite just 15 attack errors on the night, while the visitors posted a .283 attack percentage in the match. The Pirates also notched 51 digs compared to 38 by UNCP, and the Lady Braves were also credited for six reception errors compared to just two by Armstrong Atlantic.
Junior Tiara Anderson notched a team-high 11 kills on the afternoon while adding five digs and two assisted blocks on defense to lead the UNCP effort. Rachel Young, playing in front of her home crowd for the last time, finished second on the team with six kills and also added four assisted blocks from the UNCP defensive front.
Heather Bolwerk notched 19 assists to lead the Lady Braves, while sophomore Morgan Ridge contributed eight assists of her own on the afternoon.
UNCP will next be in action on Nov. 12 at the Peach Belt Conference tournament in Savannah, Ga.
