Bartz was named the Peach Belt Conference's Player of the
Week while fellow Brave Alex
Hartshorn was named the PBC Freshman of the Week, it was
announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon, for their
efforts this past week in helping lead Pembroke to a 6-1 record on
the week.
Bartz was outstanding for the Braves in seven games last week,
hitting .667 (10-15) with a 1.400 slugging percentage. The junior
hit three home runs and drove in seven with two doubles and three
runs scored. She collected two hits in four of the seven games,
including a perfect 4-for-4 mark in a doubleheader sweep of Georgia
College.
At the 2010 FMU Patriot Invitational, Bartz hit home runs
against Alderson-Broaddus, St. Andrews and Queens in consecutive
games, driving in a pair in each contest. Bartz is now tied for the
league lead in home runs and is third in slugging, third in on-base
percentage and seventh in RBIs.
Hartshorn went 5-0 on the week with a pair of victories over
GCSU before picking up three wins at the Patriot Invitational. She
allowed only five runs (four earned) in 25.0 innings pitched,
striking out 19. For the week she recorded a 1.12 ERA while walking
only six batters.
Opponents batted only .227 against her on the week. Against
Queens on Sunday she pitched a complete game shutout, giving up
five hits in seven innings of work striking out six Royals. Made
six appearances, pitching two scoreless innings in relief in a loss
to #22 Lenoir-Rhyne.
Hartshorn is sixth in the PBC in ERA and tied for ninth in
strikeouts.
