AUGUSTA, Ga. – For his efforts in leading
UNCP to a 3-0 record last week, including a doubleheader sweep of
Post on Friday, junior infielder Jordan Pegram has earned Peach
Belt Conference Player of the Week laurels, the league office
announced on Tuesday evening.
Pegram, a Greensboro native and Guilford Tech transfer, hit .615
(8-for-13) in three starts last week to go along with one double,
one triple, two home runs and six RBI. He also drew a pair of walks
to record a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.308 slugging
percentage. On defense, he committed just one error in 16 total
chances at shortstop.
Pegram began the week by reaching base safely in all six trips
to the plate against Wingate, homering in each of his first two
at-bats to highlight a 4-for-4 day at the plate with five RBI and
three runs scored as the Braves recorded their 11th-straight
victory over the Bulldogs, 14-6. He complemented his performance
against Wingate with a 4-for-9 (.444) series against Post,
highlighting a 1-for-4 hitting line in the opener with a RBI triple
and a run scored, and then doubling and scoring three times on a
3-for-5 performance in game two.
Through 19 games this season, including UNCP's Tuesday
doubleheader with Clarion, Pegram is sporting a team-leading .413
(31-for-75) batting average with 12 extra-base hits (2 HR), 14 RBI
and a squad-best 25 runs scored. He has also stolen four bases and
committed just two errors in 71 total chances in the middle infield
for the Black and Gold.
Pegram and the Braves will return to action again this weekend
when the Braves (15-4, 1-2 PBC) pack up their show and head to
Augusta, Ga., for a weekend set with Augusta State (8-9, 1-2) at
Lake Olmstead Stadium. The squads will open up the weekend with a 1
p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, before closing out the set with a 1
p.m. single game on Sunday.
