Americus, Ga. – The UNCP men's basketball squad was held to season-lows in points and shooting percentage  and suffered their worst defeat of the season, 61-39, to Georgia Southwestern on Sunday afternoon at the Storm Dome in Americus, Ga.

The Braves (11-4, 4-3 PBC) were held to 22.9 percent shooting from the floor (11-of-48) including 10.0 percent from long range (1-of-10) in suffering their first loss by more than four points this season. UNCP entered the game averaging 81.0 points per game, which was third in the conference. The Hurricanes (11-3, 4-1 PBC), who received votes in the latest NABC Division II Coaches Poll, limited the UNCP offense to a 2-20 assist-to-turnover ratio, easily the Braves' worst effort of the season.

Georgia Southwestern grabbed their final lead of the game with 8:49 remaining in the first half (21-18), and never relinquished it in capturing the 22-point victory.

The Hurricanes finished 23-of-25 from the free throw line despite finishing just 16-of-46 (34.8 percent) from the field as a squad. They turned 20 UNCP turnovers into 20 points, while the Braves were only able to turn 18 Hurricane turnovers into 12 points.

The Braves failed to have one player score at least 10 points for the first time this season in the loss, and a nine-point effort by senior Chris Hargrove led the squad. George Blakeney and Marcus Heath each recorded eight points for UNCP, and Blakeney led the rebounding effort with 11.

The Braves will look to regroup before #5 Augusta State heads to Pembroke on Thursday evening for a PBC matchup.
