Lady Braves Roll Over Armstrong Atlantic, 87-56

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Visiting UNCP used a nearly 52 percent success rate from the field and led nearly the entire game in capturing a 87-56 victory over Armstrong Atlantic on Saturday afternoon in Alumni Arena.

Junior DeDe Cotten grabbed a team-best seven rebounds registered a career- and game-high 18 points for UNCP (7-10, 3-6 PBC), including a 4-of-8 success rate from the perimeter, as well as a 3-for-5 clip from inside the 3-point line. Two other Lady Braves turned in double-digit scoring nights as well, with JaToya Kemp collecting 16 points and Briana Stanton tallying 12 points. Domonique Washington led the team in assists with six, while also grabbing six rebounds.

The Lady Braves used a combination of rebounding and shooting to pull the game away from Armstrong Atlantic (7-9, 3-5). The Black and Gold bettered its 50 percent success rate from the field in the first half to 53.1 percent in the second half and led by a game-high 37 points with 14:17 left to play. The Lady Braves canned 9-of-23 (39.1 percent) from the perimeter and 10-of-11 (90.9 percent) from the charity stripe, along with posting a 44-33 rebound advantage.

The Black and Gold also scored 36 points in the paint and nearly doubled AASU's assist total (23-12).

Ashley Slade registered a team-best 13 points for the Lady Pirates, while Marissa Rimbert hit double-digits as well with 10 points. The Lady Pirates were 33.3 percent in field-goal shooting and 68.8 percent from the free throw line, cutting down any chance of a comeback.

"We played very well offensively and stayed strong on defense," said UNCP head coach John Haskins. "We had a low turnover ratio with 23 assists and only 12 turnovers which is the best I have seen since I have been at UNCP. We were confident in ourselves on the court and played with intensity."

The Lady Braves will continue action at the English E. Jones Center next Friday when they host conference rival Montevallo (7-7, 3-2).Tip off has been set for 5:30 p.m., with the UNCP men following the conclusion of the women's game. Admission prices are $6 for adults and $2 for children 18 years of age and younger. UNCP students are admitted free with a valid Braves Card.
