PEMBROKE – Despite a season-high eight blocks on defense, the UNCP men's basketball team couldn't find a handle on offense and turnovers once again doomed it in the form of a 67-64 loss to the Montevallo Falcons on Friday evening at the English E. Jones Center in Pembroke.

The Braves' (11-7, 4-6 PBC) losing streak climbs to four with the loss, easily a season-high for a team that did not suffer back-to-back losses until Jan. 20; the second loss in this current four-game streak.

As a squad, the Braves finished 23-of-48 (47.9 percent) from the floor but just 4-of-18 (22.2 percent) from long range. The Falcons (12-5, 5-3 PBC) finished just 23-of-61 (37.7 percent) from the field and 9-of-23 (39.1 percent) from 3-point land with seven of those coming in the first half, but turned 26 UNCP giveaways into 26 points while the Braves could only get 16 points out of 15 Montevallo turnovers.

The UNCP defense blocked eight Falcon shots and the Braves won the battle of the boards (37-31) but the turnovers were too numerous to overcome in the end. UNCP had chances to take the lead or tie the game up late, but a last-chance 3-point attempt found the iron and gave the Braves their sixth conference defeat of the season.

Senior Chris Hargrove led the team with a 19-point performance on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor, including a 5-of-8 mark from the free throw line. He added four rebounds, two assists and two blocks in 31 minutes of action.

The junior duo of Cody Hughes and Mike Robinson each recorded 10 points apiece and combined for eight rebounds while fellow junior Nathan Priest led the team with 12 rebounds and recorded four of the team's eight blocks.

The Braves will have to regroup quickly with the Bobcats of Georgia College headed to Pembroke for a PBC tilt on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is slated to follow the conclusion of the women's game that begins at 1:30 p.m. at the English E. Jones Center.
