PEMBROKE – The UNCP women's basketball team registered its third-straight win after shooting more than 44 percent from the field to run past Montevallo for a 67-53 victory on Friday evening in the English E. Jones Center.

The Lady Braves (8-10, 4-6 PBC) were led by three seniors that finished in double-digit scoring as DayDay Ray collected her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while JaToya Kemp collected a team-best 20 points and Talena Faison tallied 10 points. Better than 41 percent shooting and a healthy 91 percent from the charity stripe combined with the field goal percentage made the Black and Gold tough competition on the court.

The 3-point line was lit up in the first half with Faison, Illya Hunt, and Kristen Hobbs combining for five 3-pointers to give the Lady Braves a 10-point lead with just eight minutes into the game. The Lady Braves held the lead for the entirety of the game, stretching it out to 16 points in the second half.

Tiffany McClure and Jessica Collins gathered double-digits with 15 and 11 points, respectively, for the Falcons while Shavonne Seymore grabbed a team-best six rebounds. The Falcons struggled on offense with less than 38 percent shooting from anywhere on the court.

"We either did some great things offensively or some bad things offensively, including some bad transitions, but our defense was solid and we shot extremely well," said UNCP head coach John Haskins. 

The Lady Braves will continue action at the English E. Jones Center on Sunday when they play host to conference opponent Georgia College (12-4, 4-4). Tip off has been set for 1:30 p.m., with the UNCP men following the conclusion of the women's game. Admission prices are $6 for adults and $2 for children 18 years of age and younger. UNCP students are admitted free with a valid Braves Card.
