Collèn's Hat Trick Leads Lady Braves To 6-0 Victory

Box Score

PEMBROKE – It took just over three minutes for the UNCP women's soccer team to notch their first goal while the defense allowed just five shots in downing the visiting Lady 'Canes of Georgia Southwestern by a 6-0 score at Varsity Grounds in Pembroke on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Braves (7-2-1, 2-2-0 PBC) got a hat trick from junior Andrea Collèn while newcomers Cassie DeQueiroz and Julia Haselbeck recorded their first goals of the season.

"I believe the Peach Belt is maybe the best Division II conference, top-to-bottom," said UNCP head coach Lars Andersson. "Every point in the Peach Belt is important."

"The game got off to a good start for us. We scored a couple early goals and kept it rolling from there. More than the three points and the scoring of some early goals, I also thought we played well so I'm excited about it."

UNCP out-shot the Lady 'Canes (3-7-0, 0-2-0 PBC) by a 24-to-5 margin, and the Lady Braves used both goalkeepers on their roster in the shutout victory.

DeQueiroz got the Lady Braves on the board first on a shot from the right side of the box to the bottom left corner of the goal just 3:24 into the ballgame.

Junior defender Fanny Forsman then put UNCP up 2-0 on a penalty kick after a handball was called in the box at the 6:40 mark of the ballgame.

Collèn then poured in her first of three at the 13:50 mark of the game on a shot to the upper left 90 from the top of the box to push UNCP into halftime with a 3-0 lead. The Umeå, Sweden, product then added her sixth and seventh goals of the season in the 50th and 65th minutes, respectively, the first off her head from a cross into the box, and the second off her head in the same fashion. Both of Collèn's second-half goals came off assists from junior Ashley Anctil.

Freshman Julia Haselbeck then notched her first career goal in the 76th minute on a pass from fellow freshman Michelle Hernandez from seven yards out.

UNCP will next be in action on Wednesday, October 5, when they face the Pacers of USC Aiken at Varsity Grounds in Pembroke. First kick is scheduled for 5 p.m.
