ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The UNCP volleyball team stayed competitive with Peach Belt Conference rival Flagler by taking the victory in game one before dropping the next three games to post a 3-1 final score on Saturday afternoon in Flagler Gymnasium. The scores in the match were 25-21, 14-25, 20-25 and 29-31.
The Saints (12-4, 4-0 PBC) had four players with double-digit kills as Emilee Taylor led the team with 17 kills, while Crystal Niederriter, Sophie Meyer and Abby Meyers added 15, 13 and 10 kills, respectively. UNCP (8-10, 2-3 PBC) proved to be competitive in game one as the Lady Braves posted a 57 percent sideout percentage, but fell in the following three games to a solid 68 percent sideout percentage by Flagler.
The Lady Braves took a game-high three point lead to start game four, but let the victory slide as Flagler overpowered UNCP in the final two points. Flagler collected 68 kills compared to UNCP's 50 along with posting a .265 hitting percentage compared to UNCP's .228 percentage.
Freshman Chelsea Phillips registered a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs, while Rebecca Morgan added eight kills. Setter Ashlyn Rebok led the Lady Braves with 41 of the 48 assists as Marissa Baker collected more than half the team's digs with 32.
UNCP will make the trip back to Pembroke for a 6:30 p.m. matchup against region rival Catawba (11-3) on Tuesday in the English E. Jones Center.
