Box Score PEMBROKE – UNCP sophomore goalkeeper Britney Bennett tied a career high with 12 saves, but Lindsey Knott of visiting Georgia College was able to ricochet a goal across after it hit the cross bar for the game's only goal in the 58th minute to lead the Bobcats' to a 1-0 win over the Lady Braves on Wednesday afternoon at Varsity Grounds in Pembroke.
UNCP (8-4-1, 3-4-0 PBC) was limited to just 13 shots, including five on goal, in suffering its second-straight Peach Belt Conference loss. The Bobcats (4-9-0, 3-3-0 PBC) snapped a four-game losing streak with the win and have won two out of the last three matchups with UNCP.
"I thought we came out a little nervous in the first 10 minutes," said UNCP head coach Lars Andersson. "After that, we played a lot better. I thought we played much better in the second half. I thought we were the better team in the second half."
"We're creating a lot of opportunities and getting a lot of balls into the box. We're playing well in the final third except we're not putting the ball in the back of the net."
Bennett's 12 saves matched a career high she set last year against Armstrong Atlantic in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Ashley Anctil, Kayla Colon, Amalia Arvidsson, Julia Haselbeck and Fanny Forsman each recorded a shot on goal for the Lady Braves while Arvidsson led the team with four total shots.
The Lady Braves will head back out on the road for a matchup with Clayton State on Saturday in Morrow, Ga.
