Box Score MORROW, Ga. – Host Clayton State matched UNCP in almost every statistical category on Saturday and despite eight shots on goal by the Lady Braves, the two teams battled to a 0-0 double-overtime tie in Peach Belt Conference action at Laker Field in Morrow, Ga.
The Lady Braves (8-4-2, 3-3-1 PBC) and Lakers (7-5-1, 3-3-1 PBC) matched each other in nearly all facets of the stat sheet, including a 15-to-16 ratio on shots, 8-to-7 on shots on goal, 7-to-8 on saves and 8-to-7 on fouls, respectively.
The extra time match served as the fifth occasion this season UNCP has gone past regulation time and it is now 1-2-2 in those matchups. The Lady Braves, despite being ranked No. 12 in the country with an average of 2.83 goals per game, were held scoreless for the third-consecutive contest.
"We like to look at things with a glass is half empty or glass is half full approach" said UNCP head coach Lars Andersson. "I'm going to take the glass is half full approach. I think we're going to be a very difficult team to keep out of the tournament and we will also be a very difficult out should we make the tournament."
"We don't give up a lot of goals but it will be obvious to anyone that sees us play that our challenge is finishing in the final third. We do a very good job of creating opportunities but we're not efficient in making those opportunities count. I feel like we're getting closer to finding the answer in that area."
Sophomore goalkeeper Britney Bennett recorded seven saves en route to her 16th career shutout.
Junior Andrea Collèn led the team with three shots on goal while sophonore Kayla Colon added two of her own. Julia Haselbeck, Ashley Anctil and Brittany Padilla each recorded one in the tie.
The Lady Braves will get a week to rest before making the long trip to Montevallo, Ala., next Saturday for a matchup with the Montevallo Falcons.
