PEMBROKE – Undefeated and nationally-ranked Armstrong Atlantic dished out a .310 hitting percentage and 10 blocks on the way to posting a 3-0 Peach Belt Conference road victory over UNCP on Wednesday evening in the English E. Jones Center.
Brendyce Budd totaled a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs along with leading the Pirates (24-0, 9-0 PBC) with a .500 hitting percentage. Leia Pittman and Brittany Wolf tallied a .467 hitting percentage and .385 hitting percentage, respectively.
Senior Rebecca Morgan led the Lady Braves (11-13, 3-5) with 10 kills while Hannah Hill added nine kills and a team-high 14 digs. The Lady Braves battled in a competitive game one as UNCP went on a 19-7 run, but was overcome as the Pirates ended up on top with a 27-25 victory.
Armstrong regrouped in taking the final two games 25-12 and 25-18, and held the Black and Gold to a 50 percent sideout percentage. Setter Ashlyn Rebok grabbed 32 assists while Heather Bolwerk tallied the lone solo block for the squad.
"Armstrong presents a match problem for us with our rotation especially with their hitters in the front row," said UNCP head coach Jeff Billington. "This was a tough matchup for us and we weren't able to get it done and finish when we had the momentum."
UNCP will return to action on Saturday when it hosts conference opponent Flagler (16-6, 6-1) in the English E. Jones Center with the match set to start at 2 p.m.
