Lady Braves Suppressed In Overtime By Lady Indians, 1-0

SALISBURY – The UNCP women's soccer team suffered defeat in overtime as the Catawba Lady Indians used a swift goal in the 93rd minute to collect the 1-0 non-conference overtime victory on Tuesday evening at Frock Athletic Complex.

Juliana Conte posted her second goal of the season for Catawba (5-10-0) from 12 yards outside the right post. Conte received the pass from Athens Bless on the cross into the box and placed the ball past UNCP (8-5-3) goalkeeper Britney Bennett.

The Lady Braves entered halftime outshooting the Lady Indians 6-4 as Kayla Colon and Amalia Arvidsson each tallied two shots apiece. The second half was an aggressive battle as the teams combined for 17 fouls in the half. 

With the loss, UNCP slips one game behind Catawba in the series between the two schools. Leading the Lady Braves in shots was Colon with three, while Conte led the Lady Indians with three shots.

Bennett registered four saves during the game as Catawba netminder Lindsay Webster tallied three saves. Overall, Catawba outshot UNCP 10-8, while UNCP tallied 11 fouls compared to 10 by the Lady Indians.

The Lady Braves will compete in their last home game of the season on Saturday as the Black and Gold hosts Peach Belt Conference opponent Lander at Varsity Grounds at 1 p.m. Admission to all 2011 home soccer matches is free.
