AUGUSTA, Ga. – Seniors Rebecca Morgan and Tricia Varno shared a team-best 11 kills as UNCP was sensational in attack percentage and excellent in front line defense to earn a 3-1 victory over host Augusta State on Wednesday evening at Christenberry Fieldhouse in Augusta, Ga.
The Lady Braves (10-10, 3-3 PBC) took the first two games with scores of 25-10 and 25-12 but dropped game three 20-25. UNCP regrouped in game four with a score of 25-16 for the match victory. The Black and Gold led from the beginning in each game won, and denied the Jaguars any opportunity to post a comeback.
UNCP registered a .237 attack percentage, but held Augusta State to a .097 attack percentage due to the 10 blocks on the evening – two solo block and 16 block assists. Heather Bolwerk, Chelsea Phillips, Hannah Hill and Varno shared a team-high three block assists, while Ashlyn Rebok dished out 38 assists of the total 43.
Morgan and Hill each totaled four services aces as the Lady Braves recorded a total of 12. Marissa Baker, Hill and Rebok posted double-digits digs to combine for a total 61 digs. The Lady Braves used more than a 69 percent sideout percentage in each game won and finished the evening with an overall 64 percent sideout percentage.
Augusta State's Jessica Hanson and Alex Rohlfing collected 12 and 11 kills, respectively while Krystin Wahlig tallied 32 assists. Collette Richards gathered 22 digs while Lagi Roberts had 11.
The Lady Braves will be back in action on Saturday when they face Montevallo (7-10, 2-3 PBC) at 1 p.m. and Alabama-Huntsville at 3 p.m. in the BankTrust Arena at in Montevallo, Ala.
