Two Late Goals Lift No. 22 Armstrong Past UNCP

Box Score

SAVANNAH, Ga. – No. 22 Armstrong Atlantic State kept pounding shots at the UNCP goal and finally got two across in the last 10 minutes of action to capture a 2-0 victory over the UNCP women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon in Savannah, Ga.

UNCP (8-3-1, 3-3-0 PBC) was limited to just three shots on goal during the contest while the host Pirates (7-2-1, 4-0-0 PBC) registered 13 in handing the Lady Braves their third conference defeat of the season.

"Our team played very well, I'm very proud of them," said UNCP head coach Lars Andersson. "Their effort was outstanding. We are very disappointed in the results but we're excited about how we're playing. We feel like we're starting to hit our stride and playing UNC Pembroke soccer. We want to give Armstrong a lot of credit. They stuck to their game plan and in the end their depth came through and won out with two late goals.

Morgan Mitchell scored the game winner in the 82nd minute and Kristina Pascutti added one in the 85th minute to put the game away in the waning moments.

Sophomore goalkeeper Britney Bennett recorded 11 saves but the offense was only able to record seven shots in the matchup.

The Lady Braves will return to Varsity Grounds on Wednesday afternoon for a matchup with Georgia College at 3:30 p.m.
