Rebok Pushes Lady Braves Past Patriots In PBC Tournament, 3-0

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Junior Ashlyn Rebok collected her third-straight double-double of the season as she led  the No. 3 UNCP volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over No. 6 Francis Marion in the opening round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon in Christenberry Fieldhouse. 

Rebok dished out a match-high 34 assists and 22 digs as she helped her teammates post a .209 hitting percentage, while holding Francis Marion (12-18) to a .041 hitting percentage. UNCP (16-15) was led on the offensive side of the net by Rebecca Morgan with 12 kills followed by Heather Bolwerk with 10. Morgan had a .324 hitting percentage, while freshman Hannah Hill tallied a .375 hitting percentage on nine kills and 16 attempts.

On the defensive front, libero Marissa Baker totaled a team-best 25 digs, while Morgan added eight digs, two service aces and two block assist. The Lady Braves held the Patriots to 25 kills compared to the Black and Gold's 46, but the Patriots put up nine blocks compared to UNCP's six including two solo blocks by Hill.

The Patriots captured an early 3-0 lead in game one, but the Lady Braves pulled ahead at the 15-12 mark on a kill by Hill, and used a set error by Francis Marion to finish with a 25-23 victory. UNCP controlled the game two with a 25-19 win on the attack error by the Patriots, and put the match away in game three as the Lady Braves slammed down a 25-10 victory.

Amanda Mitchell and Ashlee Crook led Francis Marion with eight and seven kills, respectively. Nicole Bennett combined for 14 assists, while Hallie Legg led the team with 17 digs. 

This is the first time the squad has made it past the opening round in the conference tournament since the 2008 season when the squad defeated Lander, 3-2, before being shutout by the Patriots, 3-0 in the semifinal round.

The Lady Braves will continue to the semifinal round of the PBC Tournament on Saturday in Augusta, Ga., as the Black and Gold will face the No. 2 seed Flagler (26-6) at 4 p.m.
