AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Junior Courtney Bolton led the UNCP women's basketball team in scoring and in rebounding for her second double-double of the season as the team captured its first Peach Belt Conference victory over East Division rival Flagler on Saturday afternoon in Flagler Gymnasium.
Bolton posted 14 points and collected 10 rebounds as UNCP (4-4, 1-1 PBC) outrebounded Flagler (1-8, 0-4) 44-36 in the nine point victory over the Lady Saints, 67-58. Newcomers Amelia Partin and Taylor Gallentine each registered double-digit scoring with 11 and 10 points, respectively. The Lady Braves asserted an impressive 41.8 percent field goal shooting and a steady 75.0 percent from the charity stripe.
The Lady Braves started with intensity from the tip of the ball as the squad boasted an 11-point lead and held the Lady Saints scoreless until the 11:21 mark in the first half. UNCP led by as much as 13 points, and entered halftime with a seven point lead. Flagler was first to score in the second half and cut UNCP's lead to only three points with 16:03 remaining in the game.
Bolton, Gallentine and senior DeDe Cotten shared a team high three assists, while Cotten led the team in steals with three. The Lady Braves suffered only 12 turnovers to record the second-lowest allowed this season.
Taye'Lor Trotter led the Lady Saints with a game-high 19 points, while Treva Mason tallied a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Flagler shot 33.9 percent from the field and committed 19 fouls compared to UNCP's 14.
The Black and Gold will rest for a day before returning to the court in another PBC East Division matchup with Armstrong Atlantic (6-3, 1-2) on Monday in the Alumni Arena. The game is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. with the men's playing 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game.
