No. 15 USC Aiken Rolls Past UNCP, 58-52

PEMBROKE – USC Aiken posted 21 points off of 17 UNCP turnovers to help the 15th-ranked Pacers roll past the Lady Braves for a 58-52 victory on Wednesday Evening in the English E. Jones Center.

Senior Briana Stanton led UNCP (10-14, 6-10 PBC) with a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds while Talena Faison chipped in 11 points. Stanton was 6-of-11 from the field and 7-10 from the charity stripe. The Lady Braves made changes to their game from the prior matchup against the Pacers (22-4, 14-2) – a 68-38 loss in Aiken, S.C., on January 5 - but committed two more turnovers and were out-rebounded by five.

The Black and Gold shot 37.8 percent from the field while the Pacers shot just more than 35 percent. USC Aiken collected 18 second-chance points compared to the Lady Braves' 10 points. However, UNCP connected on 12 points on fast breaks – 10 more than USC Aiken – and registered 22 points in the paint. 

The Lady Braves dispatched the first points of the game with a lay-in from Stanton on a fast break, but the game eventually would be tied three times with five lead changes and the largest lead of the game held by USC Aiken with eight points in the first half at the 7:11 minute mark.

Daniela Tarailo and Kayla Harris collected double-digit scoring for the Pacers with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Hannah DeGraffinreed grabbed a team-best eight rebounds while Triahna Harris chipped in a team-best four assists.

UNCP will return to action on Wednesday when it hosts Armstrong Atlantic (8-15, 4-11) at the English E. Jones Center in Pembroke. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with the men's portion of the doubleheader to follow afterwards.
