Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – UNCP used an notable 43.4 percentage from the field and committed just 12 turnovers in defeating Flagler,71-51, for the second-consecutive time in the series, on Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
Junior DeDe Cotten led UNCP (12-14, 8-10 PBC) in scoring for the fourth time this season with 20 points as she was 60.0 percent from the field, 75.0 percent from the 3-point line, and 71.4 percent from the free throw line while also grabbing six rebounds, dishing out four assists and registering two steals. JaToya Kemp posted 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, including a 3-of-5 effort from the charity stripe. Talena Faison pulled down a team-best seven rebounds while Domonique Washington recorded a game-high five assists.
The Lady Braves grabbed 40 rebounds with 31 coming on the defensive side and shot 57.1 percent from the 3-point line and 68.0 percent from the charity stripe. UNCP scored 30 points in the paint compared to Flager's (6-20, 3-15 PBC) 14, and the Black and Gold held a 16-2 advantage on fast break points.
The Saints took the first lead of the game off a layup by Shelbi Lindsey but two made free throws by Briana Stanton would tie the game at 2-2. With a 3-pointer by Cotten, the Lady Braves would hold the lead and push it to 28 points, their largest of the ballgame, at the 8:52 mark of the second half.
Adrianna Roper was the only Saint in double digit scoring with a team-best 12 points while Lindsey collected a game-high 11 rebounds. Flagler suffered on offense after shooting a mere 30.5 percent from the field. The Saints committed 15 fouls which doubled UNCP's total of seven.
UNCP will travel to first-seed Lander (26-2, 16-2 PBC) in the first round of the PBC Tournament on Wednesday at Horne Arena in Greenwood, S.C. Tip off has been slated for 7 p.m. with the winner moving on to the PBC Final Four Tournament hosted by USC Aiken.
