Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Pembroke – A triple by freshman Schanique Barrett with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth inning proved to be the difference for UNCP to capture a 5-3 Peach Belt Conference victory in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader at LRA Field in Pembroke.
The Lady Braves (12-8, 2-2 PBC) secured the doubleheader sweep with the victory and have now won the last three matchups against the Pacers (9-5, 2-2 PBC).
The Pacers pushed a run across the board in the top of the third inning to break up the scoreless tie, but the Lady Braves answered right back in their half of the inning on Barrett's first RBI of the day – a double to left center that brought sophomore Kellie Van Dyke around to score from second.
Barrett was not done, however, as the Golden State product ripped a triple in the fourth inning to the gap in right center to score Hillary Jones, Ashley Harrell and Van Dyke in order.
The Pacers would add one more run in the top of the fifth and seventh innings, but junior Jamie Burwell would strand runners at second and third base to end the game.
Barrett finished 2-for-4 with four RBI to lead the offense while senior Lynn Grantham added a 2-for-2 effort and Harrell finished 2-for-3.
Burwell improved to 5-2 after earning the decision with four innings of two-run relief with two strikeouts.
The Lady Braves will have a break to recoup before heading out on a six-game (three doubleheader) road swing beginning with a matchup against Valdosta State in Valdosta, Ga. on March 9.
