Box Score PEMBROKE – Four players finished in double figures to lead UNCP to a Peach Belt Conference victory over Flagler, 79-59, on Saturday afternoon at the English E. Jones Center.
Senior Talena Faison led the Lady Braves (9-12, 5-8 PBC) with a game-high 18 points, grabbed six rebounds and was 50 percent (6-of-12) from the field, 100 percent (2-of-2) from the perimeter and 80 percent (4-of-5) from the charity stripe. Briana Stanton registered 16 points, six rebounds, a trio of assists and a pair of steals as she was 7-of-9 from the field and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
DayDay Ray collected 14 points and a game-high seven rebounds, dished out five assists and collected three steals while Domonique Washington was the fourth Lady Brave to tally double-digits with 13 points. The Black and Gold shot a season-best 53.4 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from the perimeter.
UNCP knocked down 32 points in the paint, 16 points from turnovers and 12 points off fast breaks. The score was tied three times with 11 lead changes but UNCP pulled ahead for the final lead at the 9:54 mark as Faison drained a 3-pointer off the assist from Washington. Throughout the remaining nine minutes, the Lady Braves would extend their lead to the final 20-point difference.
Flagler (5-14, 2-9) was out-rebounded, 35-26, and committed 19 turnovers. Tierra Ford led the Saints with a team-best 16 points while Shelbi Lindsey registered 11 points and Adrienne Donelson and Charlsea Owen each tallied 10 points apiece.
"We started slow offensively but worked our way back for the victory despite having a few issues on defense," said UNCP head coach John Haskins. "It is very nice to get a win and we will now focus on the game ahead."
UNCP will hit the road as the team travels to Augusta, Ga. to battle conference opponent Augusta State (6-14, 0-12) on Monday. Tip off has been set for 5:30 p.m. with the UNCP men following the conclusion of the women's game.
