Box Score 2 PEMBROKE – UNCP got 4-2/3 innings of perfection from starter Josh Bagley, but erupted for double-digit hits for the second time in the series en route to completing a series sweep of visiting Anderson with a 6-1 triumph in Sunday's series finale at Sammy Cox Field.
Eight different players recorded base hits for the Braves (3-0), with sophomore Aaron Parnell (1-for-3) providing a bulk of the damage on three-run home run in the third inning. Josh Haley tripled and scored once on a 2-for-4 day at the plate, while newcomers Stephen McKinney and J.J. Williams both turned in 2-for-3 performances.
Tony Price and Zach Reeves grabbed the only hits of the game for Anderson (1-3), with Reeves scoring the visitors' lone run of the contest after doubling with one out in the sixth.
Bagley (1-0) sat down each of the first 14 batters he faced before surrendering a seeing-eye single with two outs in the fifth. He would finish his initial outing of the season with six strikeouts as well. Newcomer Braxton Lewis struck out one in a hitless seventh inning to finish off the weekend sweep.
Erick Sanderson (0-1) allowed nine hits and five earned runs in four innings from the hill to saddle the loss for the visitors.
Haley and Brad Bridgeman both singled to lead off the bottom of the first inning, but it was senior Jason Coker that would provide the first run on a RBI groundout moments later. Haley tripled to lead off the third and scored two batters later on a RBI single by Coker, but Brandon Huffman followed with another single that set the table for Parnell's shot to straight-away centerfield that gave the hosts a 5-0 advantage.
Anderson would use a passed ball to spoil the shutout in the sixth, but UNCP answered back in the home half of the frame when Alex Pearce's deep fly ball to centerfield would easily plate McKinney from third.
UNCP will be back in action again on Wednesday when the Braves travel to Hartsville, S.C., to battle region rival Coker (1-1) in a 2 p.m. contest at Tom J. New Field.
