Box Score 2 Pembroke – A single through the right side of the infield by senior Morgan "Mo" Patrick in the bottom of the eighth inning brought home the winning run which gave UNCP a 3-2 extra-inning victory in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader at LRA Field in Pembroke.
The Lady Braves (15-15, 3-5 PBC) got a complete-game victory from freshman Natalie Klemann, as she held the Bobcats' (10-27, 5-5 PBC) offense to seven hits over eight innings while registering two strikeouts.
The Lady Braves fell behind 1-0 after Georgia College scored in the opening half of the first inning, but UNCP rebounded to tie up the score in the bottom of the second on a double by sophomore Kellie Van Dyke that scored Patrick from second.
The Bobcats then retook the lead in the top of the third inning after Whitney Okvist scored on the throw to second in a steal attempt by Haley Burnett.
UNCP would re-tie the ballgame in the bottom of the fourth when junior Jamie Burwell singled to right field that scored Patrick from third.
The two would be scoreless the rest of the way until the bottom of the eighth inning. Courtney Hill led off with a walk, and pinch runner Hillary Jones advanced to second on a wild pitch during the next at-bat. Sophomore Holly Berry then singled on a bunt that pushed Jones over to third before Patrick came up with her latest "big-moment" hit for the Lady Braves, and singled between the Bobcats' first and second basemen to score Jones from third.
Patrick led the offense with a 2-for-4 day at the plate with two runs scored and the game-winning RBI-single. Van Dyke finished 1-for-3 with an RBI double and Burwell added a 1-for-3 line with an RBI-single.
The Lady Braves will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Greenwood, S.C., for a PBC doubleheader against the Lander Bobcats.
