Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – After logging more than 101 minutes in goal in the last two games for the Braves, freshman goalkeeper Joe Cullip has been named the Peach Belt Conference's Goalkeeper of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Cullip began with 56 minutes of shutout action against Mount Olive, and followed that up with 45 minutes in the 10-1 victory over Chowan. The newcomer has allowed only two goals in 282 minutes played this season for the undefeated Braves and leads the league in goals allowed (two) and goals against average (0.64). He allowed just one score and tallied seven saves during the week.
The Braves have posted a 4-0 mark this season which is first time in seven years that UNCP has started its season with four wins. The Braves, amid their march to the NCAA Final Four, began the 2004 campaign with five-straight victories.
This week the Black and Gold will continue on the road as it battles Brevard on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Eagle Field on the campus of Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C., before opening its conference schedule at North Georgia on Saturday.
