PEMBROKE – Visiting Georgia College scored 26 points off of 18 UNCP turnovers and held the Braves to one of their worst shooting performances of the season en route to a 64-60 upset on Sunday afternoon in the English E. Jones Center.

The setback denied the Braves (12-6, 6-2 PBC) their record-tying ninth home victory of the season, while also sending the Black & Gold back to second place in the PBC East standings. The triumph gave Georgia College (10-7, 3-5) its 25th win in the last 27 meetings with UNCP, while also giving the Bobcats consecutive conference victories for the first time this season.

Freshman Ben Jacobs turned in his first collegiate double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead UNCP, who also got a career-best 12 points from Ty Alston. Ryan Aquino scored a game-high 19 points to pace four Bobcats with double-figure scoring nights. Mike Augustine booked 16 points, Jared Holmes tallied 12 and Scott Ferguson finished his night with 10. The Georgia College starters accounted for all 64 of their points in the outing.

"Give the credit to Georgia College – they earned it and they deserved it," said UNCP head coach Ben Miller. "We won the rebounding battle, but they won the fight for the loose balls and we couldn't get stops when we needed to."

Three free throws by Alston gave the Braves their final lead of the ballgame, with 12:19 to play, because Georgia College answered the three-shot foul with an 8-2 run that gave the visitors a 46-39 advantage less than four minutes later. The Black & Gold got to within three points a handful of times over the remainder of the game, but the Bobcats fended off the comeback attempt due mainly to 6-of-8 shooting from the stripe over the game's final 31 seconds.

Neither team was able to gain an edge in a lackluster first half. Georgia College built an 11-4 lead through the game's first 7-1/2 minutes, but the Braves answered with a 7-0 scoring spurt that tied the game up with 10:27 left before the break. UNCP led by as much as five points in the opening stanza and, inevitably took a 24-19 advantage into the locker rooms.

The Braves will be back in action again on Wednesday when they begin a four-game road trip at PBC East rival Augusta State (10-7, 6-3). Tipoff has been set for 7:30 p.m. inside Christenberry Fieldhouse.
