UNCP Stopped By Augusta State, 3-1

PEMBROKE – The Lady Braves snapped a 27-set winless streak, taking the victory in the first set against Peach Belt Conference opponent Augusta State, before dropping the next three at the English E. Jones Center on Friday evening. 

UNCP (5-14, 0-6 PBC) outhit Augusta State (11-9, 2-4), 18-11, earning a .300 hitting percentage in the first set. The Lady Braves jumped ahead of the Jaguars 8-5 to get things started before freshman Ashtin Truesdale went on a six point run, giving the Black and Gold a 14-7 lead. Truesdale began her run with a kill and went on to post four service aces, with three coming consecutively. Truesdale recorded her first career double-double, notching 10 kills and 12 digs. The Lady Braves never fell behind the Jaguars in the first set, finding victory 25-18.

The second set began with an another powerful serving performance from Truesdale, as she collected three more consecutive service aces, putting the Black and Gold ahead 3-0. Andria Tagarelli led the Jaguars on a 10 point serving run to put Augusta State ahead of UNCP, 20-13. The Saints finished the set on back-to-back kills from Lauren Alverson and Kristen Koch, to win the second set, 25-17.

The Saints would put the match away winning the next two sets, 25-15 and 25-10. In the final two sets, Augusta State garnered 32 kills to UNCP's 16 kills. 

Marissa Baker and Leslie Millard had a team-best 15 digs apiece for the Black Gold. Baker slammed nine kills and assisted on four blocks, as the Lady Braves collected four team blocks. Newcomer Julie Larsen delivered seven kills for UNCP, while senior Ashlyn Rebok dished out a team-high 36 assists.

Augusta State was led by Kristen Koch and Jenna Keeler who notched 18 kills and 10 kills, respectively. The Jaguars totaled a .340 hitting percentage, with 60 kills. Krystin Wahlig earned a team-best 35 assists, while Tagarelli led the Jaugars with 26 digs.

The Lady Braves will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they host PBC foe Montevallo (8-12, 1-5) at 1 p.m. at the English E. Jones Center.
