MARS HILL – After 110 minutes of scoreless action and an onslaught of shots, the UNCP men's soccer team ended the match with No. 18 Mars Hill in a tie on Tuesday evening in Mars Hill as Ryan Hanson notched eight saves for the Braves.

Hanson began the contest with two quick saves in the first 34 ticks on the clock as Mars Hill (11-2-1) put pressure on the UNCP (9-3-1) net. The Black and Gold defense immobilize the Lions' offense as 28 total shots were unable to register at least one goal.

The Braves notched 15 total shots with James Casserly and Sean Hoek who led the team with three shots. Matt MacDougall, Daniel Bougt and Rico Laitinen added two shots, while three others posted one shot apiece. Shadi Harb led the Lions with eight shots, while Alex Mullen chipped in six.

Despite being outshot during the first 90 minutes of action 22-11, the Braves kicked in the momentum in the second overtime with four shots compared to Mars Hill's three.

Hoek posted the final shot of the second half at the 89:22 mark to try and put UNCP on the board to avoid overtime. With no avail, the Braves again posted the last shot of game as Laitinen's shot flew wide at the 108:01 mark.

Zac Scott collected six saves in his 110 minutes in goal for Mars Hill. Both Hanson and Scott tallied four saves apiece in the first have with Hanson adding three saves in the second half and one in the final overtime.

The match saw a combined 34 fouls and four yellow cards with UNCP holding 15 of those fouls and two yellow cards.

The Braves will compete in their last home game of the season on Saturday as the Black and Gold hosts Peach Belt Conference opponent Young Harris (11-2-1, 3-1-1 PBC) at Varsity Grounds at 3 p.m. Admission to all 2012 home soccer matches is free.
