Lady Braves Grab Huge Result, Tie No. 19 Lenoir-Rhyne

Box Score

HICKORY - Amalia Arvidsson scored a pair of goals and Britney Bennett registered a career-best 13 saves as UNCP posted a huge result on the road with a 2-2 tie at No. 19 Lenoir-Rhyne on Monday evening.

The draw snapped a nine-game winning streak for the Bears (12-1-1) who had been steamrolling opponents since dropping a 2-1 decision to then No. 11 Columbus State on September 9 at home. UNCP (8-5-3) stretched its series unbeaten streak out to six games with the outcome, while also improving to 7-3-1 all-time against L-R who debuted at No. 3 in Wednesday's initial NCAA Southeast Region rankings.

Arvidsson finished the outing with a game- and career-best 12 shots, while Sherrie Gessin posted seven strikes on the L-R net. Bennett, who had turned in 12 saves twice in her career heading into Monday's outing, made 13 key stops in the contest, including eight in the second half alone.

The Bears got goals from both Emmi Dunn and Ariel Dominguez, as well as a team-high nine shots from Carley Griffin. Leah Mullins, the third-leading point scorer in the South Atlantic Conference, was held without a shot, while Kendall Smith, who also ranks among the SAC's top-10 scoring leaders, was limited to two low-risk strikes.

Caitlin Scruggs, who led the SAC in both goals allowed (4) and goals against average (0.33) heading into the week, made a season-best 12 saves against UNCP. However, her streak of 420 scoreless minutes came to an end on Arvidsson's 42nd minute goal. Scruggs had allowed just one goal in the previous 600 minutes before Arvidsson made good on a one-vs.-one opportunity that tied the match up at one apiece.

"This was a classic UNCP and Lenoir-Rhyne matchup. We got off to a bit of a slow start but I am very proud of the way we responded to giving up that first goal. We came right back and leveled the score almost immediately," said UNCP head coach Lars Andersson. "We now have to prepare for two very important Peach Belt Conference games to finish out the regular season schedule."

The Lady Braves will travel to Aiken, S.C., for a PBC battle with USC Aiken (4-9-3, 3-5-1 PBC) on Wednesday at the Pacer Pit with first kick scheduled for 5 p.m.
