ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Lady Braves were shutout by Peach Belt Conference foe Flagler on Saturday day afternoon at the Flagler Gym. The score of the three sets were 25-7, 25-18 and 25-21.
UNCP (5-18, 0-9 PBC) was overwhelmed by a strong Flagler (17-7, 9-0) hitting performance, as the Saints slammed down 48 kills, notching a .375 hitting percentage. Marissa Baker posted a team-high 13 kills for the Black and Gold. Emilee Taylor led the Saints with 13 kills, while Rachel Stacy contributed and additional 11 kills for Flagler.
The Saints dominated on offense in the first set, taking a quick 16-1 lead on a 12 point serving run by Caitlyn Kovach. In the second set, back-to-back kills from Baker put UNCP ahead of Flagler, 3-2. Casey Gnann served four consecutive points, as Amelia Morgan notched a service ace to put the second set away for the Saints.
The Lady Braves were able to keep the final set close, delivering 14 kills for a .222 hitting percentage. Baker tallied seven kills for UNCP in the third set. The Lady Braves were able to keep the set within reach, never falling behind more than four points. However, a kill from Flagler's Dianna Craine would earn the Saints match point.
UNCP will be back in action on Wednesday as the Lady Braves play host to Fayetteville State (18-5) at 7 p.m. in the English E. Jones Center.
