Braves Suffer Defeat Due To Bearcat's Lone Goal, 1-0

Box Score

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Lander's Chris Hobbs supplied the game-winning goal on a rebound off the cross bar in the 44th minute to route the UNCP men's soccer team on Wednesday evening in Peach Belt Conference action at the Jeff May Complex.

The Braves (7-3-0, 2-3-0 PBC) were outshot throughout the match as No. 24 Lander (8-1-0, 4-0-0) notched a final 21 shots compared to UNCP's six. The Black and Gold struggled to post a shot in the first half as the Bearcats only managed five shots with one goal in the first 45 minutes of action.

UNCP halted all 16 shots by the Bearcats in the second half as the squad denied one shot on goal. Junior Ryan Hanson grabbed two saves in his time between the posts, while Lander's Barrett Nielsen clinched the win with three saves in the final 45 minutes of the game.

Senior Sean Hoek led the squad with two shots, while four other Braves each tallied one shot. Clement Dauchy registered a team-best six shots as Brett Jankouskas and Kevin Durand had five and four shots, respectively.

Lander was given the only yellow card of the game as the match saw more fouls than shots with UNCP and Lander combining for a total 25 fouls with 15 fouls alone in the first half.

The Black and Gold will take the next week to regroup before returning home to face Francis Marion (3-6-0, 0-3-0) in a PBC matchup at Varsity Grounds. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with free admission to all 2012 soccer home games.
