Two Second Half Goals Lift Bearcats Over Lady Braves, 2-0

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Lander women had an offensive surge in the second half to shutout the Lady Braves, 2-nill, in a Peach Belt Conference showdown Wednesday at the Jeff May Complex.

The Bearcats (7-1-2, 5-0-0 PBC) remain unbeaten in PBC conference play after outshooting the Lady Braves (5-4-1, 2-4-0) 16-6; including 7-2 shots on goal. Jamie Shaw netted her seventh goal of the season putting Lander ahead of UNCP early in the first half. Amalia Arvidsson took a team-high three shots in the setback, registering half of the shots for the Black and Gold. Lander held the advantage in corner kicks, totaling 10, while UNCP had only two through 90:00 minutes.

The first half saw a very aggressive Lander team, as the Bearcats picked up 10 first half fouls compared to three for UNCP.  Kelsey Blair collected two saves in the first half for Lander on shots from UNCP's Rebecca Womack and Andrea Collèn

Lander's second half offense was sparked by Shaw, who scored the game winner in the 52nd minute of play off of a foul. Kimberly Kesler added another goal for the Bearcats in the 77th minute to put the game away.

UNCP keeper Britney Bennett recorded five saves in her 90 minutes in goal. The junior has played over 800 minutes between the posts this season for the Lady Braves, grabbing 41 saves. 

The Lady Braves will look to rebound on Saturday as the squad travels to Milledgeville, Ga., for a PBC tilt with Georgia College (4-6-0, 1-4-0) with first kick set for 6 p.m. at Bobcat Field.
