PEMBBROKE – The UNCP women's volleyball team fell in three straight sets, 25-17, 25-15 and 25-13, to Peach Belt Conference rival Francis Marion on Wednesday evening at the English E. Jones Center.
The Lady Braves (5-19, 0-10 PBC) were overwhelmed by a strong Francis Marion (16-9, 4-6) defense, as the Patriots totaled six blocks and 47 digs. The Patriots got three service aces from Liz Drewry, while Kailey Smith, Shelby Jones and Rebekah Davis each added one additional ace. Sawyer Gray and Marissa Baker notched seven kills and six kills respectively for the Black and Gold. Gray also posted a team-high 14 digs. Ashlyn Rebok dished out 18 assists and garnered UNCP's only solo block.
UNCP jumped ahead of Francis Marion in the first set on a 9-5 run bringing the score to 12-8. The Patriots would take control of the set as Smith served five consecutive points. Francis Marion put away the first set on a 10-5 run to close things out.
The Patriots dominated the final two sets on offense, outhitting UNCP 25-15. Drewry and Jessica Imbimbo collected 13 kills and 10 kills, respectively, for Francis Marion, who hit .260 in the match.
The Lady Braves will be back in action on Friday as they host PBC challenger USC Aiken (16-9, 5-4) at 7 p.m. at the English E. Jones Center.
