"It was a good win for us, Fayetteville State is a great team. We made a lot of ball handling mistakes in the first half, which led to transition baskets for them. I thought we were very fortunate to only be down six at halftime," said UNCP head coach John Haskins. "We shot 50 percent in the second half and got to the free throw line. Then Jazmine Kemp knocked down two big free throws with about a second left in the game. It was a good win for us to get ready for Monday."

The Broncos entered the second half with a 35-41 lead, within the first two minutes of action the Lady Braves tied the game up at 41-41. UNCP earned the advantage in free throws, taking 19 trips to the line in the second half.

With 13 seconds remaining on the clock, a layup for the Broncos from Ashford tied the score at 70-70. Kemp went to the line for the Black and Gold with only a second left in regulation and made good on consecutive free throws giving the Lady Braves the 72-70 victory.

The first half was a back-and-forth battle that saw seven lead changes and five tie scores. The Broncos saw their biggest lead at 39-30 with just over two minutes remaining in the half. UNCP was able to cut the deficit to six with five consecutive made free throws.

After opening up the 2012-13 campaign with four straight road games, UNCP will come home to the Pembroke on Monday, as the Lady Braves host Queens (1-0) in the English E. Jones Center at 6 p.m.
