Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – UNCP senior defender Fanny Forsman was named to the 2012 Women's Soccer All-Conference First Team, while forwards Amalia Arvidsson and Rae-Shawna Campbell earned a spot on the second-team all-conference, as well as Campbell being named Co-Freshman of the Year, the league announced on Friday afternoon.
A Preseason All-Peach Belt Conference selection, Forsman has been named to the all-conference team three times in her career, receiving second-team honors as a sophomore and was named to the first-team last year as a junior.
Forsman, a Borås, Sweden native, has started in 18 of the Lady Braves 19 games this season and has totaled 1610 minutes of action. She has delivered four goals and two assists for the Black and Gold. Her first goal of the 2012 campaign came in the season opener on the road at Mount Olive. Forsman notched her second goal on a penalty kick in UNCP's 2-0 victory over PBC opponent Flagler and contributed another goal in a 6-0 triumph over Chowan. Her final goal came on a penalty kick in 3-2 conference victory on the road at USC Aiken. Forsman has taken 20 shots this season, seven of which were on goal (.350). The senior has helped UNCP outscore its opponents 44-26 this season.
Arvidsson has been UNCP's leading goal scorer all season, totaling 13 goals for the Black and Gold. She is ranked second in the PBC in goals (13) and points (37), while holding the number one spot in the conference in assists (11) and shots (84). The Borås, Sweden native scored a goal in each of the Lady Brave's first three games of the season, which helped the squad to acquire a four game unbeaten streak to start 2012 season. She had her best shooting performance against then-No. 11 Lenoir-Rhyne, when she fired off 12 shots and scored UNCP's only two goals to lead the Lady Braves to a 2-2 draw. Her 11 assists have set a new school record for single season assists. Arvidsson notched two goals and three assists in the Lady Braves' victory over Lander in the quarterfinals of the PBC Tournament.
Campbell has made 15 starts and played in 19 games in her first season with the Lady Braves. She is the fifth Lady Braves to be named PBC Freshman of the Year in the 12 years of the UNCP women's soccer program. She has netted 10 goals this season for the Black and Gold, with six of her goals coming against PBC opponents. The Wilmington native has also garnered four assists for UNCP and is sixth in the PBC in points with 24. Campbell collected her first career hat trick against North Georgia and she has fired off 67 shots, 31 of which were on goal (.463). The newcomer has delivered three game-winning goals for the Lady Braves, with all three coming against PBC opponents.
The Lady Braves will take on nationally ranked No. 20 Columbus State today at 5 p.m. in a PBC Semifinal contest in Evans, Ga., at Blanchard Woods Park.
