Braves Win Fourth-Straight, Coast Past St. Andrews

Box Score

PEMBROKE – Six players recorded double-digit scoring efforts, including three with double-double performances, to help UNCP register its fourth-straight victory with a 110-70 rout of visiting St. Andrews on Sunday afternoon in the English E. Jones Center.

The output was the third-straight 100-point game for UNCP (5-3) – the first time that has happened in the history of the program, while also giving the Braves their most 100-point games in a season since the 1988-89 squad accomplished that feat on five occasions. The setback marked the fourth-straight series loss for the Knights (0-9) who have now dropped 11-straight contests dating back to last season.

UNCP got double-double outings from three players, including starters Brandon Winford (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Reggie Cobia (10, 13), as well as newcomer Jihad Wright (13, 10). Senior Shahmel Brackett scored a game-best 26 points, six seven rebounds and six assists, while George Blakeney added 18 points of his own and Quamain Rose chipped in 12.

Christopher Clay scored a game-best 17 points for St. Andrews, who also got 11 points apiece from both Clavontae Brown and Mark Chinn.

UNCP, who out-rebounded the Knights by a 63-31 edge in last Sunday's 106-59 victory in Florence, S.C., did some damage on the boards again, this time posting a +31 rebounding margin. The Braves also shot 47 percent from the field, including a 9-of-22 success rate from 3-point land.

UNCP led 15-4 at the first media timeout and toted a 55-23 lead into the locker room after a short jumper by Brackett right before the halftime buzzer. A pair of free throws by Brackett with 8:01 left in the game gave the Braves a game-high 45-point lead, 89-44, and cued the hosts to empty the bench.

The Braves will be back in action again on December 11 when they close out a three-game home stand against Mount Olive (1-4) in the Jones Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
