Lady Braves Cage Golden Tigers, 68-59

Box Score

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Sophomore Kierra Haney led the charge for the UNCP women's basketball team as she notched her second career double-double by posting career bests in scoring and rebounding to collect the nine-point victory over Tuskegee, 68-59, in the final game of the Stair South Classic Tournament.

The Lady Braves (6-5) snapped a four-game losing streak this season and registered a 42.1 shooting percentage from the field to mark the best percentage since December 1.

Haney finished the game with 18 points and 12 rebounds and was the only Lady Brave named to the all-tournament team, while Chandrica Fuller chipped in 16 points and dished out six assists. Kamille Horne, Wayne Mack and Jazmine Kemp added eight points apiece.

UNCP began the first half shooting 46.7 percent from the field, and within the first five minutes the Lady Braves controlled a seven point lead as Haney had eight of the squad's 10 points. The Lady Braves used a scoring advantage in the paint to control the lead throughout the first 20 minutes and went into the locker room at halftime with an eight point lead.

Sophomore Kamille Horne pushed the Black and Gold to a 19-point lead with 3:10 left in the second half on an effective shot from behind the arc to help ensure the victory. UNCP was held scoreless for the remained of the game.

"We played very well offensively and had solid defense especially in the final seven minutes of the first half and into the second half," said UNCP head coach John Haskins. "For the most part, I thought we did some great things and had good performance out of Kierra Haney, Wayne Mack and Chandrica Fuller. It was a good win for us and we are ready to look forward to our next game against Georgia College."

UNCP outrebounded Tuskegee (3-6) by five and held the Golden Tigers to a mere 27.9 shooting percentage from the field.

Kajuanna Rivers knocked down five 3-pointers and finished the contest with a game-high 21 points. Marie Mcabee held a team-best eight rebounds and totaled 11 points.

Haney joins four others that made the all-tournament team including MVP Shanteona Keys and Bradni McKinney of Georgia College, Rivers of Tuskegee and Angie Lawrence of Coker.

The Lady Braves will return to Peach Belt Conference action on Thursday when the Black and Gold make the trip back to Milledgeville, Ga., to battle Georgia College (6-3) in a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
