Box Score 2 SALISBURY – The Catawba Indians took a 4-0 victory from the visiting UNCP softball team in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader at Whitley Field as Brittany Murray pitched a complete game for Catawba.
Freshman Brea Hartley gathered two hits to lead the UNCP (0-6) offense, while Holly Berry, Kristen Hobbs and Kaytee Wilson each registered one hit. Catawba (6-1) posted three hits from Amanda Terry as well as two hits and two RBI from the designated player Emily B. Huneycutt. Four different players scored one run for the Indians apiece, while two others collected one RBI each.
Jamie Burwell (0-3) started in the circle for the Lady Braves and pitched 4-2/3 innings allowing eight hits and three earned runs. Natalie Klemann relieved Burwell in the fifth inning and finished the game as she allowed one hit and one earned run as well as two strike outs. Murray (3-1) grabbed the shutout in the contest and limited the Black and Gold to five hits as she collected two strike outs.
Alli Justice put Catawba on the scoreboard initially with a run in the first inning, and the Indians scored two additional runs in the fifth along with last run in the sixth. The Lady Braves started slow as only three at-bats were allowed in the first three innings, but the squad pushed the effort in the fourth inning as two batters reached third base. The Black and Gold left five batters on base in comparison to Catawba's eight.
