HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Sophomore right-hander Andrew Goot limited visiting and eighth-ranked UNCP to five hits and a lone ninth-inning run en route to leading Coker to a 6-1 upset of the Braves on Wednesday afternoon at Tom J. New Field.

The loss snapped a 13-game regular season winning streak for UNCP (8-1) who got doubles from newcomers Jordan Edgerton and Dalton Knight, as well as singles from three other players. The Braves stranded six on the base paths, including five runners in scoring position. T.J. Sinnott doubled in a pair of runs and scored once on a 2-for-4 outing to pace the Cobras (5-5), while Frank Suarez and Fico Kondla both singled twice and scored two runs on 2-for-3 hitting lines.

Thomas Allen (1-1) struck out a pair of batters, allowed eight hits and three earned runs in 4-1/3 innings of work to take the loss for UNCP. Goot (1-2) retired the first 16 batters he faced and grabbed the win for the Cobras after striking out six and yielding just one hit in seven solid innings from the mound.

Sinnott's two-out double in the second gave Coker the only runs it would need, but the Cobras lit up the scoreboard once in both the fifth and sixth innings to stretch that advantage out to 4-0. Coker would add two more runs in the eighth, one on a bases-loaded walk and another on an ensuing RBI single, for a pair of insurance scores.

Goot broke up his own bid for perfection by beaning Max Gagnon in the sixth, but Edgerton broke up the no-hit bid moments later with a double. The effort was futile, however, as Goot struck out Victor Zecca and Coker picked off Edgerton heading back to third to escape the scoring threat. The Braves got runners at the corners with one out in the seventh, but Goot, again, slammed the door on the rally by inducing Dalton Knight to fly out and then striking out Gagnon.

Knight's one-out double in the Knight was followed up by a RBI single from J.J. Williams that provided UNCP's only run of the contest.

The Braves will open up Peach Belt Conference play this weekend when they lace up to battle PBC West foe Georgia Southwestern (1-6) in a three-game series at Sammy Cox Field. The squads will open up the weekend with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday before concluding the series on Sunday with a 1 p.m. contest.
