Box Score 2 ANDERSON, S.C. – Jordan DeLoatch struck out seven and allowed just three hits in his collegiate debut and eighth-ranked UNCP tacked up a pair of multi-run innings en route to a series-clinching 6-1 victory over Anderson on Saturday evening at Memorial Stadium.
Senior Brad Bridgeman doubled twice and scored a pair of runs on a 2-for-5 outing to pace UNCP (2-0), while freshman Dalton Knight finished off a torrid day at the plate with a 2-for-3 plate exhibition. Senior Aaron Parnell tripled in a run and later scored, while freshman Victor Zecca drove in two runs for the Braves as well. Four different players registered base hits for Anderson (0-2).
DeLoatch (1-0), a Greenville native, allowed just three base runners through the first five innings, before getting himself out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth. Fellow newcomer Connor Pratt yielded one hit in a scoreless seventh but was not awarded a decision. Landon Beck (0-1) saddled the loss for Anderson after allowing six runs (two earned) on six hits in five innings from the hill. He also struck out five.
Jordan Edgerton walked and Josh Haley reached via an error by Beck to begin the third and Zecca followed with a two-run single up the middle to give DeLoatch all the run support he would need. Bridgeman and Knight both provided RBI singles in the frame as well to give UNCP a 4-0 cushion heading to the fourth. The Braves would pad their lead out to 6-0 in the fifth thanks to Parnell's triple, as well as a pair of costly passed balls by the Trojan defense.
Ryan Kirkland doubled in a run in the sixth to spoil DeLoatch's shutout.
The Braves will close out their weekend series with Anderson on Sunday at Memorial Stadium. First pitch of the finale has been set for 1 p.m.
