Box Score 2 GREENWOOD, S.C. – The UNCP softball team completed the series sweep of Peach Belt Conference opponent Lander with a 3-0 score on Saturday afternoon as Karlee Wilson homered to centerfield in the fifth inning to send three runs around the bases.
Karlee Wilson stepped up to the plate with two outs, and with Kaytee Wilson on second and Kristen Hobbs on first, and sent the ball flying over the fence for the game-winning runs. UNCP (13-16, 2-2 PBC) was led by Hobbs and Ashley Harrell with two hits, while five others each tallied one hit. Lander (15-17, 1-7) posted four hits with Kelsey Davis notching two.
Jamie Burwell (4-4) struck out eight batters, including the final three in the seventh inning to end the game, and walked two in her seven innings in the circle for the Lady Braves. Hayley Leissner (8-10) went the first five innings and allowed all three earned runs before Davis finished the final two innings for the Bearcats.
Brea Hartley started the fifth inning with a popup to second base before Kaytee Wilson walked to start the momentum. Holly Berry recorded the second out on a foul ball caught by the catcher and Hobbs moved Kaytee Wilson to second on the single to left field before Karlee Wilson did sent the ball flying to give the Black and Gold a three run lead.
UNCP held Lander scoreless throughout the final innings and extended its winning-streak in the series to five games.
UNCP will return to Pembroke for an eight-game home stand beginning with a doubleheader on Sunday against PBC foe Georgia College (18-13, 5-2) at LRA Field. The first game is set to begin at 12 p.m.
