Box Score 2 PEMBROKE – USC Aiken scored the only run of the game in the first inning to pull past the UNCP softball team in the first game of the doubleheader, 1-0, on Wednesday evening at LRA Field.
The Pacers (18-9, 7-4 PBC) put their lead-off batter, Kaitlyn White, on base off a single, rounded the bases on an error and scored on a sacrifice bunt to give USC Aiken the lead for the rest of the game. The loss snaps UNCP's (14-22, 3-8) three-game winning streak in the series.
The Lady Braves notched three hits as Brea Hartley, Holly Berry and Jamie Burwell each posted a hit apiece. White and Kayla Denham led USC Aiken with two hits each, while Kelley King totaled one hit and Whitney Clary tallied the RBI.
Starr Gilley (5-12) pitched a complete game for UNCP and allowed one unearned run on five hits. Gilley walked two and struck out six in her seven innings of work. India Kornegay (15-7) grabbed the win as she struck out eight, walked three and allowed three hits.
