Box Score 2 AMERICUS, Ga. – Junior Holly Berry scored the game-winning run as freshman Brea Hartley crossed home plate to deliver the UNCP softball team the final victory of the season over Georgia Southwestern to split the series with a 3-2 victory in game two.
UNCP (16-31, 5-15 PBC) collected nine hits with freshman Kaytee Wilson leading the way with three, while Berry posted two hits and two RBI. The Lady Braves held Georgia Southwestern (22-30, 4-16) to just one hit as Mason Moreland scored the two runs and Gabby Buck totaled the two RBI.
Senior Jamie Burwell (5-6) grabbed the victory after seven innings of work in the middle as she gave up the solo hit, four walks and two earned runs but notched eight strikeouts. Katie Maddox started the initial five innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits. Casey Burns (4-4) gave up the final run in the seventh inning as well as four hits and two walks.
Hartley opened the first inning with a double along the left field line, was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Ashley Harrell and scored as Berry singled to centerfield giving UNCP a 1-0 lead after the first half inning.
Burwell walked Moreland in the first at-bat for Georgia Southwestern and tied the game as Moreland scored on the single by Buck. The Lady Braves took the one run lead in the fifth inning as Wilson singled up the middle, advanced to second on Megan Hillard's sacrifice bunt, rounded third on Morgan Davis' fielder's choice and finally scored on a sacrifice fly by Hartley.
Moreland again reached first on a walk in the sixth, stole second, move to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly to put the Hurricanes in equal position with the Black and Gold as the score was tied at 2-2.
UNCP made its final move in the seventh to put the game away as Hartley walked and scored on Berry's double to left field to end the regular season with a bang.
