PEMBROKE – Montevallo's Ricky Davey drilled a shot from the top of the box with 30 minutes remaining in the match to notch the game-winning game goal for the Falcons and deliver the UNCP men's soccer team the first loss of the season, 3-0, on Saturday at Varsity Grounds.

The Braves (5-1-0, 1-1-0 PBC) spent the first 60 minutes of action in a deadlock for control with Montevallo (4-2-0, 1-0-0) as the each offense was left wanting by the opposing team's defense. Both Ryan Hanson and Brendan Ledgeway collected one save in the first half as the Falcons led six shots to three.

The scoring session began with Davey on the assist by Guiliano Frano, but continued when Pierre Omanga scored on a close range shot into the net after a scuffle in the box at the 80:04 mark. Finally, the Falcons tipped in the final goal of the game when Stefan Vaziri broke away from the defense and collected on a one-on-one with the Hanson in the box. 

In the second half, UNCP tallied only four shots compared to Montevallo's 13. Seniors Michael Smith and Sean Hoek, as well as sophomore Sam Miles each registered two shots, while freshman Ryan McIntyre had one.

Davey posted four shots, while eight other players had as least one shot. Both Hanson and Ledgeway spent all 90 minutes and goal as they finished the game with three and two saves, respectively.

"The first half was ok, but the second half was appalling. We got beat and they deserved to win," said UNCP head coach Phil Hindson.

UNCP will return to action as its battles Brevard (1-3-1) on Monday at 7 p.m. at Eagle Field on the campus of Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C.
