Lady Braves Shutout By Eagles

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The UNCP women's volleyball team fell in three straight sets in the second match of the Eagle Invitational to host team Carson-Newman Saturday morning at the Holt Fieldhouse.

Junior Sawyer Gray led the Lady Braves (5-6) posting nine kills with a .304 hitting percentage. Gray, along with Ashtin Truesdale had a team-best two service aces apiece. The Eagles (1-3) were led by Ashley Ferris and Rachel Harper who slammed down 11 kills apiece. Ferris achieved a .556 hitting percentage as the Eagles took the three sets with scores of 25-22, 25-22, 25-20. 

The first set saw back-to-back attack errors from UNCP which game Carson-Newman a 17-9 lead over the Black and Gold. The Lady Braves fought back to stay in the game with strong serving from senior Shay Peterson. Peterson served four consecutive points including one ace. 

UNCP grabbed a lead towards the middle of the second set on a Sawyer Gray serving run. The Eagles were able to rebound however as Rachel Harper went on a 7 point serving streak to take the lead. 

The Lady Braves and the Eagles both saw their strongest hitting performance in the final set as the teams hit .241 and .412 respectively.
