Box Score PEMBROKE – Sophomore Amalia Arvidsson scored the only goal for the UNPC women's soccer team as the Lady Braves fell 3-1 to Peach Belt Conference opponent Clayton State Saturday evening.
Arvidsson scored on a header with an assist from Julia Nytorp in the second half. The goal marks Arvidsson's fourth of the season, she leads the Lady Braves (3-2-1, 1-2-0 PBC) in goals scored. Junior keeper Britney Bennett played a perfect 90:00 minutes between the pipes and garnered five saves for the Black and Gold. The Lady Braves outshot the Lakers (5-3-0, 1-1-0) 22-13 throughout the game. The Lakers scored two goals in the first half and notched a third on a late penalty kick by Silvia Espelt.
Nytorp connected with Arvidsson in the 63rd minute of play, as Arvidsson headed the ball inside the box. CSU's Espelt picked up her second goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 83rd minute of play.
The first half was controlled by the Lakers offensively as they scored in the 21st minute on a shot from the left side into the bottom of the corner from Lea Notthoff, and then again the 34th when Brooke Bortles found the back of the goal with help from Danielle Fletcher on the assist.
Freshman Rae-Shawna Campbell, along with Arvidsson and Nytorp collected a team-high five shots apiece, while Nytorp had the only assist of the night for the Lady Braves. Valentine led the Lakers taking four shots with three on goal. Laosie O'Driscoll grabbed nine saves for CSU in the net.
The Lady Braves will look to regroup on the road as they travel to Wilson to match up with Barton (2-4-0) on Monday at 5 p.m.
